Cartier Must de Cartier Tank Sterling Silver “Blue Roman” SM Ref. 57002 (circa early 1990s)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
Something like 95% of Must de Cartier Tanks are vermeil (sterling silver base with yellow gold plating) but every once in a while, these show up (sterling silver base with rhodium plating) and we snap them up if the condition is good and the authenticity clocks. It makes for a more versatile white metal watch that is easier to match with outfits and perfect for those who are just not keen on yellow gold. The blue roman numerals/printing (reminds us of the CPCP Tortue Monopoussoir in white gold that costs 2000% more LOL). And of course, Must de Cartier Tanks are Cartier’s accessible versions of their Tank Louis Cartier, the most iconic luxury dress watch of all time. Also the most important watch in Cartier’s history as it saved them from dwindling demand for luxury timepieces in 1970s France. Comes with the original Cartier strap and original Cartier buckle. Versatile, elegant and something less common on the wrist. Très cool!

CONDITION:
8.5/10, with some hairlines and micro-nicks on the rhodium plating which remains intact without peeling, flaking or thinning. Dial has very subtle and interesting swirly spidering (reminds us of Van Gogh’s brush style) visible only under magnification and strong light from certain angles. Used original Cartier strap is in great condition with plenty of life remaining. Original Cartier pin buckle like new. Crystal and crown cabochon are clean. Movement in excellent health and quartz-accurate.
