Longines "Tank" White Roman Dial Ref. 5038-1 (circa 1970s)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
An absolutely gorgeous alternative to a Cartier Tank, with many of the same classic art deco cues, but interpreted in a way that’s unique to this Longines reference. This Ref. 5038 was also possibly the design predecessor to modern Longines Dolcevita, which first appeared in the 90s just a couple of decades after the 5038. Slightly larger than vintage Tank LMs, so this is perfect if you’ve ever thought Tanks are a tad too small for your wrist. Notably, the lug width is 20mm, making this wear substantially, as well as offering exceptional versatility in terms of ease of finding straps today. The neutral white dial helps in the versatility department too. We love the case for its little details, the trapezoidal profile, and juxtaposition of curvature and straight geometrics. Excellent condition on this one, and powered by an ultra-thin in-house Longines movement serviced and warrantied.

CONDITION:
9.5/10, with very few signs of wear beyond a few hairlines and no nicks/dents to speak of. Edges all sharp, well defined and appears to never have been refinished. Dial, hands, printing and crystal are absolutely pristine… very uncommon for most examples we’ve seen. Original signed crown. Caseback engravings deep and clear. New aftermarket strap and buckle. Movement serviced with a 6-month warranty, returning over-spec power reserve, good amplitude, low beat error and accurate to ±5 sec/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
