Omega De Ville “Disco Volante” Gold w/ Bakelite Bezel Ref. 515.0014 (circa early 1970s)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
The De Ville line holds a special place in Omega history. Originally a sub-collection of the Seamaster range, it diverged into a standalone line by 1967, offering more refined pieces within the brand’s increasingly sport-oriented catalog. Over time, it even became the platform for many Omega firsts, such as their first co-axial escapement and first anti-magnetic central tourbillon. Here we have an example that is at once avant-garde and elegant. At a glance resembling the distilled simplicity of a Cartier Pebble but viewed in 3 dimensions, is more akin to a 70s notion of a UFO, hence it’s nickname (“disco volante” means flying saucer in Italian). Thin, complex in planes (just check out that caseback), and an enduring time capsule of the 70s notion of futuristic design, yet remaining very elegant and dressy. Printed white indices except for the cardinal positions with golden appliqués. With a Bakelite bezel insert that somewhat resembles tortoise shell… an uncommon variation! Serviced and warrantied.

CONDITION:
8.5/10, with some hairlines. The Bakelite bezel insert has seen some wear but is structurally intact and characterful with honest wabi-sabi allure. Original Omega-signed crystal has some microscopic marks but clean presentation overall. Original Omega-signed crown, dial, hands and indices are all clean. New aftermarket strap and buckle. Movement serviced with a 6-month warranty, returning over-spec power reserve, excellent amplitude, low beat error and accurate to ±20 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
