WHY WE CURATED IT: De Villes are special in Omega’s history. Originally a sub-set of Seamasters, they became an important standalone line as a home for technical milestones (eg. Omega’s first co-axial escapement and first anti-magnetic central tourbillon) and a host of design styles. Here we have a classic De Ville once considered a “jumbo” size (36mm) for simple daily practicality. But what’s developed on this particular example is anything but plain. Possibly once a blue dial variant, it has taken on a spectacular “tropical” patina throughout to a shimmery golden champagne hue. It’s finds like this that give us pause to re-evaluate our often futile pursuit of perfection and embrace wabi-sabi uniqueness and charm. Truly a one-of-a-kind example of nature’s art that only the passage of time (a lot of it) can craft. Whoever snags this unique piece is very lucky indeed as we’ll certainly never find another one like it. Serviced and warrantied with original Omega “beads of rice” bracelet.
CONDITION: 8.5/10, with shallow hairlines and micro-nicks. Dial is beautifully patinated with a grainy golden hue. Clean indices and hands with some yellowing on the latter. Dial printing remains crisp and likely headed to a “ghost” effect as the dial patina progresses. Tritium lume plots intact except for the small pip at 2 o’clock, all responding to UV correctly for age. Replaced crystal has small marks visible only under a loupe. Original signed crown. Omega bracelet has moderate stretch but still remarkable for its age and in very good condition otherwise. Movement serviced with 6 months warranty and is in very good health, with over-spec power reserve, high amplitude, low beat error and accurate to ±25 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
