WHY WE CURATED IT:
We tend to think of Seamasters as dive watches today. But “Seamaster” was once simply Omega’s moniker for water-resistant pieces. This is one such example. Considered “jumbo” sized back in the day, it wears with a sporty and purposeful presence, broad case flanks, integrated bracelet and a look that is very 70s. There’s a bit to unpack with this specific watch. Ref. 166.0216 was released in the mid 70s, but this is a very late batch from 1982, hence the .2 suffix. Additionally these references when sold with their original integrated bracelets, were officially marketed as 366.0848. Whatever the convolution surrounding these reference numbers, these remain excellent value bargains with strong cases and movements and a very evocative aesthetic of the time. Muscular, with thick case flanks and broad shoulder chamfers, a sunburst silver dial with a sloping edge for the minute markers, polished frame for the day and date windows and black-inlaid appliqué indices for legibility. Features the famed hippocampus relief on the caseback, a quickset date function, and a dependable “modern” automatic that is one of the best tested Omega movements we’ve had to date. Presented to you serviced and warrantied.
