WHY WE CURATED IT:
Oris is one of the only mid-sized mass market Swiss watch brands that's fully independent. It wasn’t always this way. Founded in 1904, it was one of countless watchmaking entities that neared collapse during the quartz revolution. In an attempt to survive in the 70s, it became part of ASUAG (now Swatch Group) and was immediately made to produce quartz pieces to rival the Japanese. It wasn’t an effective strategy and by 1982, was about to be shut down by ASUAG when its operational managers executed a dramatic management buyout and returned the brand to independence with a pledge to only make mechanical watches from then on. This piece here was created during the brand’s 100th anniversary rejuvenation of its dressy daily offerings, featuring a beautifully complex case and a reminder of the brand’s commitment to mechanical underpinnings via an exhibition caseback proudly displaying its signature red rotor. The star of the show here is that gorgeous guilloche dial. Also love that big onion-adjacent crown that is a delight to operate. CONDITION:
9.5/10, with hardly any signs of use. Dial, crystal, hands are pristine. Original signed crown. Caseback engravings deep and crisp. Case hallmarks still intact. Crystal, dial printing and hands are clean. New aftermarket strap with original Oris buckle. Movement is serviced with a 6-month warranty and returning over-spec power reserve, stellar amplitude, negligible beat error and accurate to ±5 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
