Rolex Cellini “Oval Tonneau” 18K Gold Ref. 3802 (circa 1969)

WHY WE CURATED IT:
Part of the now discontinued Cellini Collection (replaced by the 1908 series), this is a Rolex that’s hardly ever seen and it’s unlikely you’ll ever run into someone else with the exact same watch. Under-appreciated until recently, Cellinis have always been overshadowed by steel Rolex sports watches with Oyster cases, but these ultra-slim, elegant beauties crafted entirely in precious metals represent some of the most astounding value you’ll ever find in Rolex world. And the smartest collectors know this. They are timeless, pure, and the epitome of quiet understated real luxury. This particular version features a solid 18K yellow gold compact tonneau case with an oval champagne dial and gold hands/dial furniture. Absolutely exquisite and we’ll be sad to see this go. Powered by a Cal. 1601 that does away with a winding rotor, seconds hand and date wheel for the ultimate in slimness, purity and reliability. Just sublime!

CONDITION:
8.5/10 with minimal signs of wear, just shallow hairlines and micro-nicks. Crystal, original Swiss-only dial, yellow gold hands and appliqués are pristine. Original signed crown. Caseback engravings and hallmark remain. Aftermarket genuine lizard strap used but with plenty of life remaining, paired with aftermarket gold-plated Rolex-style buckle. Movement in stellar health with to-spec power reserve, high amplitude, low beat error and accurate to ±3 secs/day averaged from 6 timegrapher positions.
